The Patriotic Alliance (PA) continues to make significant inroads in the Western Cape, traditionally the stronghold of its arch rivals, the Democratic Alliance (DA).
On Wednesday, the PA scored victories in two wards, where it trounced both the DA and the ANC. The victories were scored in by-elections in Oudtshoorn and Swartland. The party also came close to a third win in Cederberg.
In a statement following its victories the PA said: “The most shameful part of it all was that the DA did not even have the courage to contest Ward 9 in Oudtshoorn, but their hatred and fear of the PA was so overwhelming that DA leaders were hoping for an ANC win and were asking their members to campaign for the ANC and to vote ANC.”
”They didn’t stop there, but even produced fliers trying to popularise the untruth that the PA is an “ANC lite” and that a vote for the PA is a vote for the ANC. Our two-thirds victory in Oudtshoorn over the ANC demonstrates how big the DA’s lie has become – this lie has become their entire campaign tool, and they have been repeating it now for nearly a year and a half. But it cannot be true, because not only did we defeat the ANC in Oudtshoorn, we initiated the by-election by welcoming the ANC’s former ward councillor and former mayor, Chad Louw, into the PA family. We are grateful that we also defeated the DA in Swartland in Ward 11.”
The PA said the DA’s fear of the PA is so huge that it did not even contest Ward 3 in Cederberg and instead campaigned with the local party Cederberg Eerste. “Had they not done that, and split the vote, the PA would have won here too. It was justice against a party that believes lies can be a valid strategy to stay in political power. But if you have to lie to stay in power, then you do not deserve to be in power.”
The PA thanked God for its wins and paid tribute to the hard work of its supporters and candidates, “who fought a clean, honest campaign”.
