The pitbull tweet doing the rounds following the release of nomination figures by ANC electoral committee mocking presidential hopeful Lindiwe Sisulu is a blight on the ANC than it is meant to be an insult to Lindiwe Sisulu and other women who were approached to stand for a top six positions of the party ahead of its elective conference in a few weeks’ time.
The tweet is correct in insinuating this and provokes society to ask who are the real pitbulls? The real pitbulls are leaders who waste no opportunity to take the podium and tell lies that the ANC continues to be a democratic organisation that has no room for sexism and patriarchy.

The tweet tells a story of a high priest who is politically incompetent and deemed as useless by regional and continental bodies such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU). The only eminent jobs he can take are within the ANC.
The high priest is now a self-professed Mr. Fix-it yet he continues to weaken the ANC. A case in point is that his announcement just focussed on the numbers of those he claimed to have made a threshold without showing an acknowledgement of the effort of those branches that preferred other candidates and project to them in a transparent manner how they could not succeed in making the threshold so that there is no public suspicion of pitbulls that have savaged and devoured the votes of preferred women leaders.
Instead the incompetent high priest creates a political unappetising picture of the political organisation that is at war with itself, he reports in a manner that gives the public impression of the villains and the vanquished as this is in his DNA and wants to see an eventuality of the ANC that is weak and booted out of power. That is why he gets so irritated when Comrade Thabo Mbeki speaks about what needs to be done to fix the ANC.
The sexist nature of what is regarded as the democratic outcome of the branches is a symptom of political impairment in the ANC which is a deep-seated cancer of sexism and patriarchy in the oldest liberation movement. The Godfather of “renewal”, the President continues to be the beneficiary and in his own list he had a boys’ choir of contending males as his deputy.
But who are the real pitbulls? What does Cyril Ramaphosa represent? He sold himself as a modern embodiment of renewal but in fact a master of degeneration. Him and his cronies have hatred of freedom fighters and will stop at nothing to ridicule them.
Lindiwe Sisulu and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma risked their youth and femininity, they never embarrassed Oliver Tambo in exile and they never sold out the ANC. They have a right to contest in the ANC without being ridiculed.
Ramaphosa knows very well why he disbanded the ANC Women’s League. He wanted to have surrogates of sexism who will say like they did in Nasrec 2017 that women are not ready to lead. What a blight? Who are the real pitbulls?
