President Cyril Ramaphosa has told a caucus in the ANC that he has no choice but to resign, EFF president Julius Malema claimed on Thursday.
Malema said sources close to Ramaphosa had told him that he (Ramaphosa) said he had no moral defense concerning an explanation into the exorbitant amount of US dollars stolen on his Phala Phala farm.
Malema said the president had been stopped from resigning when the scandal first emerged by ANC NEC members like Zamani Saul, Oscar Mabuyane, and Stella Ndabeni-Williams. Several investigations are reportedly running at the same time concerning the $4-m that was stashed and stolen on the president’s farm. Both law enforcement and the Public Protector’s (PP) office are reportedly investigating.
The allegations that Ramaphosa could have been involved in money laundering had implications for the Namibian president who was accused of helping Ramaphosa to hunt down the people behind the theft of his money on the farm.
Malema accused law enforcement agencies of turning a blind eye to serious allegations of money laundering, racketeering, and torture that Ramaphosa faces.
“We know as a matter of fact that the millions of dollars that were hidden in Phala Phala and many other properties of the sitting president are not proceeds of a game sale and we know that the police and the South African Reserve Bank, the South African Revenue Services, the Financial Intelligence Centre and all law enforcement agencies are fully aware that the sitting president has violated the money laws of the Republic,” Malema said.
The EFF had written Parliamentary questions to the president asking him to explain where the money came from. The party wanted to know if there were other millions stashed at his other properties. Malema accused Ramaphosa of violating the rules of parliament and those of the country by not responding to the questions.
“We as the EFF have also written to the South African Reserve Bank, the South African Revenue Services and the Financial Intelligence Centre and all relevant structures to demand to demand that Cyril Ramaphosa be held accountable,” Malema said.
The EFF leader also blamed Ramaphosa for the high food and fuel price that has affected millions of South Africans.
