Executive Mayor of Moqhaka Municipality Motloheloa Mokatsane has on Tuesday, apologised for his usage of the K-Word.

Motlohela used the K-word outside the Viljoenskroon Magistrate court last week when he was addressing protesters who came to support a victim of gender-based violence (GBV) during her hearing.

Moqhaka municipality in the Free State includes Kroonstad, Steynsrus, and Viljoenskroon.

In a statement, the mayor said he wished to apologize to Moqhaka residents and the people of South Africa for being reckless and insensitive.

“The mayor wholeheartedly retracts the usage of the K-word and the offense this might have caused to the entire society”, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the municipality’s spokesman Dika Kheswa told Africa News Global that the mayor did not mean any harm, but he was only trying to encourage men to do better in their communities.

The mayor was there to be in support of the victim, and it was unfortunate that he used the K-word, however, he didn’t mean any malice or to cause harm to anyone in the country,” Kheswa added.
