ANC member and former Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association spokesperson Carl Niehaus has been honored with a warrior name by the INJEJE yabeNguni Council.
Niehaus was given the name “for his selfless dedication in fighting against the enemies of the people of South Africa”.
“He at a very young age, against great odds, chose to stand with the native people of the land who had been suffering at the hands of the merciless, murderous Apartheid regime,” the Council said.
“Mpangazitha did this as a young Afrikaner with all the options of privilege, whilst many who occupy senior government positions today were nowhere to be seen. It is a Nguni custom to bestow a warrior name to those who have demonstrated by their actions of valor to have become one of us, and more so a demonstration on our part that we see him as one of us”.
The name Mpangazitha, which Niehaus has been bestowed with, translates to “he over-eats his enemies” in Zulu. It comes at a time when Niehaus’ Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) credentials have been questioned.
“Mpangazitha is a name of many famous Nguni Kings and renowned warriors of yesteryear and so we believe Mr. Niehaus has earned his stripes as per Nguni standards to be officially given a warrior name which unites him with the native people of Africa for all eternity – sithi MPANGAZITHA“, the INJEJE yabeNguni Council said.
