Mzansi mourns rapper Riky Rick

The death of rapper Rikhado Makhado known as Riky Rick, sent shock waves across Mzansi on Wednesday.

The Boss Zonke hitmaker topped the trends chart on Twitter as local celebrities were lost for words as they tweeted sad and heartbroken emojis in disbelief of the news.

The Makhado family released a statement confirming the death.

“The family of South African artist Riky Rick with profound sadness this afternoon, confirmed his ultimate passing. Son, husband, father, brother and uncle Riky Rick Makhado (34) sadly passed in the early hours of this morning 23 February in Johannesburg,” the statement read.

Rikhado was deeply loved by his family, friends and the entire entertainment industry.

“His love for the family, friends, and community is well known. Riky’s nurturing and developing of young musical talent is well documented, and will forever be remembered,” the Makhado family continued.

Makhado last tweeted in the wee-hours of the morning: “I’ll return a stronger man. This land is still my home.”

Heartbroken fans flocked under his timeline, pleading with the rapper to tweet, praying that the news was not true.

Riky Rick was set to host the 3rd annual cottonfest festival in March. The event brought South Africa’s finest performances and Dj’s together where many supporters referred to as “cotton eaters” came together to showcase their creativity in fashion. The rapper became a fashion icon and a voice for many youngsters.

He is survived by his wife, two children, his mother and five siblings.

Details of the funeral and memorial will be confirmed at a later stage.
