With a pass rate of 98.39%, the Independent Examination Board matriculants have managed to beat the odds and excel towards life in tertiary. Despite the hiccups of the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, learners have shown resilience and managed to obtain distinctions. Some schools have even managed to obtain a 100% pass rate.
Sacred Heart College has a 100% pass rate, with 92% of the learners obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree pass and 80% receiving one or more distinctions.
Crawford International College in Ruimsig also obtained a 100% pass rate, and 98% of the learners obtained a Bachelors’s Degree pass.

Executive Principal Willem van Zyl said the achievement resulted from resilience, creativity, and determination from all those involved. He said learners and teachers went through a lot in the past two years.
“They survived a pandemic and found new ways of learning. They missed what was seen as normal grade 12 activities: matric farewell, competing for the last time in a sport’s event, and cultural activities. All this could not dampen the spirit of our future changemakers as they embraced the changes and stayed positive in the face of adversity. These are the qualities instilled in our students who have voice, choice, and who took ownership of their own destiny,” he said.
St Andrew’s College (SAC) in Makhanda achieved a 99% pass rate. Headmaster Alan Thompson said learners and staff have been working tirelessly on building true academic excellence.
“Our strategic imperative is to create academic options, that every boy can find his giftedness and flourish. As a non-selective school, we believe we are able to provide a subject range to suit every boy. We are proud of the Matric Results of 2021, which reflect the efforts of a cohort of boys who have contributed significantly in our diverse range of holistic school activities under difficult conditions,” he said.
