We have a leadership problem in all spheres of government in South Africa

By: Gayton McKenzie

Two months ago I posted on social media, pictures of the derelict state of the Reigerpark pools in Ekurhuleni. All four pools and a slide were vandalised. Mind you, this was the most expensive pool ever constructed in Gauteng.

The grass was overgrown and all cables, pipes, and pumps were broken. The full staff was still reporting for duty including security.

I mobilised volunteers from my party and matched every rand with R10 and we started fixing the pool. Yesterday (Saturday 11 March), we handed over the brand-new facility to the useless Ekhuruleni Municipality.

It gave me such joy to watch the kids having such a great time yesterday. We have a leadership problem in all spheres of government in South Africa. People cannot take initiative and fix things without tenders.
