Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) students are protesting outside Propaganda, a club in Pretoria.
They are calling for the shut down of the popular drinking spot following the alleged shooting and killing of a TUT student on Thursday night.
The shooting allegedly happened after Amaroto and Reece Madlisa, who were the attractions for the night, had performed.
According to Sylvester Hlongwane, one of the students outside the venue, Skhwama, supported Amaroto as they come from the same place.
“He came here to support them. We then received a call saying he had been shot. We rushed to Propaganda, but he didn’t make it,” he said.
Hlongwane said the student had been shot in the neck.
“As students, we want to ensure his soul rests in peace, and we want the club to close because they clearly can’t ensure the safety of patrons,” he added.
According to the staff at the club, a disgruntled patron stormed out of the venue and went to his car, and started shooting.
“We don’t know what happened, but he got into his Mercedes Benz and started firing randomly. One of the shots hit a guy, and the shooter drove off. It was chaotic after that, and ambulances were called,” said the employee.
Attempts to get comments from police and management were not successful at the time of publication.
This is a developing story, more information to come.
