Patriotic Alliance (PA) West Rand leader Bruce Nimmerhoudt, who has been on trial facing charges of inciting violence and terrorism-related activities has been acquitted.
Nimmerhoudt appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Friday to face charges under the Terrorism Act following his arrest for allegedly inciting violence during the deadly July 2021 civil unrest.
It was alleged that Nimmerhoudt circulated a WhatsApp voice note inciting public violence and calling for people to block national highways.
However, On Friday, the court maintained the State had failed to prove its case against Nimmerhoudt and cleared him.

Nimmerhoudt has consistently maintained he was being framed and that the case against him was politically motivated An elated Nimmerhoudt said: ” I want to thank my wife and my family for believing in my innocence. Most of all I want to thank the leadership of the Patriotic Alliance, President Gayton McKenzie, and Deputy President Kenny Kunene who also believed in my innocence. I also want to thank all PA members who supported me throughout this politically motivated case.”
Nimmerhoudt said he was relieved the case was over as this would give him the chance to focus on his job as a member of the mayoral committee (MMC) for Housing in Rand West Municipality.
Kunene said: “We have always believed that charges against Bruce were political. That our courts can be used for political motives makes a complete mockery of our justice system. Kunene compared Nimmerhoudt’s case to that of another PA member and former Fees Must Fall activist Bonginkosi Khanyile, who is currently facing similar charges.
“Like Bruce, we are confident the State will also fail to prove its case against Khanyile and that he will be a free man soon,” said Kunene.
