The Patriotic Alliance has made significant inroads in George, Western Cape following by-elections in three wards in the are on Wednesday. In a statement, the PA said after another round of by-elections in South Africa, “it is clear that the momentum of the Patriotic Alliance (PA) continues as we grow our numbers and support”.
“We congratulate councillor Christo Alexander, the new ward councillor for Ward 20 in George. You and your team had an excellent campaign in a tightly contested race. You are our first of many ward councillors to come in the Garden Route.”
“Most importantly, we wish to thank each and every voter who put their trust in the PA. We shall never forget you.”
The PA said all three of the other wards the party contested – two more in George and another in Rustenburg – “saw massive growth for the PA as we build towards next year’s national and provincial elections”.
“They can say what they like, but the PA is strong and getting stronger. These elections will, however, also be remembered for the aspersions cast on the Democratic Alliance (DA) of electoral fraud.”
“This followed the inducements it made to three ward councillors from GOOD to defect to the DA and the confusion caused by Richard Hector changing his mind to return to GOOD. When Hector’s replacement candidate for Ward 27 stood down for the DA, we as the PA were fully expecting the DA to once again try to blame us for that and invent a lie that we had offered him millions, or something or the other, to do so.”
“We could not care if the DA did try to lie, since we doubt anyone with any sense still believes their nonsense.” The PA said serious questions would also have to asked about the manipulation of the voters’ roll and the allegations made by GOOD of the DA registering voters who live outside the ward they should be voting in.
“In addition, for nearly 200 people to be registered at 4863 Primrose Crescent in George is an insult to anyone’s intelligence. The house in question is not an apartment block, nor does it seem to be concealing a massive underground bunker.”
“It is a simple little bungalow on a small, dusty street that doesn’t seem to be a residential portal to another dimension.”
The PA called on the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) “to exercise basic common sense when auditing voters’ rolls”.
“From the PA perspective, the Ward 16 outcome makes no sense, but we also have a lot to celebrate. The people of George have opened their hearts to the PA. They saw us working and changing lives.”
The PA said it discovered a welcome growth of support for it’s president Gayton McKenzie and the party in the white community.
“We have strengthened our structures in the Garden Route. In forcing these by-elections, the DA awoke a sleeping giant and the Garden Route is no longer the stronghold the DA once believed it was. The DA was under so much pressure that they had to pull some very suspicious moves to ensure their win in Ward 16.”
“We shall await the IEC decision, but suspect that another by-election will be called in Ward 16. Overall, the Patriotic Alliance is bigger and stronger as a result of these by-elections and we march forward with great vigour and confidence to 2024.”
