In a statement on Sunday, Patriotic Alliance deputy president Kenny Kunene said he and his party had been left saddened and with a sense of loss at news that the ANC’s deputy Secretary-General had lost her fight against cancer earlier that day.
She had been on medical leave since November last year.
Kunene said: “The Jessie I knew was a progressive politician never scared to speak her mind. Despite our political differences, she was always happy to discuss and debate issues and had a generous spirit.
“She fought right up to the end, but could not overcome the last battle against cancer. In the end, all of us will be defeated by death, but Jessie never lost her will to live and fight. That is always the key to a life well lived.”
He said his party had benefited with the presence of one of her family members as a leader, and they offered their heartfelt condolences to him as well as the whole Duarte, Whitley and Dangor extended families.
“She will be much missed.”
