The Patriotic Alliance (PA) in Knysna Municipality in the Western Cape, has successfully managed to collapse a coalition led by the DA in the municipality.
The drama unfolded on Tuesday when the Speaker of the Council, councillor Julie Lopes was removed through a motion that was tabled by PA councillor Beauty Charlie and supported by the EFF.
The PA withdrew from the DA-led coalition in April 2022 after serious disagreements with the DA. The council will now be run by a coalition comprising the ANC, PA and Plaaslike Besorgde Inwoners (PBI), which will see the ANC occupying positions of Mayor, Speaker and Chief Whip while the PBI will get Deputy Mayor.
