PA deputy president Kenny Kunene: Is Vavi’s Saftu a union for South African workers, or foreigners?

By: Kenny Kunene

Zwelinzima Vavi’s SA Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) clearly aligned itself on Friday with the needs and agenda of foreign nationals in South Africa, begging the question of whether they deserve to use “SA” in their name.

The murder of Elvis Nyathi was deplorable, but where was this same Saftu when the community was angry about seven South Africans they said were murdered the previous week allegedly by Zimbabweans? The residents of Diepsloot have made startling claims of being terrorised by illegal immigrants, especially from Zimbabwe.

It’s now so bad that the home affairs minister has had no choice but to deploy 25 immigration officials to the area to try to sort out the mess.

As South Africans we need to take responsibility for making our poorest communities the dumping grounds for an endless influx of foreigners who are coming to South Africa in an increasingly predatory way. They hijack buildings, put local spaza shops out of business and set up other networks for criminal enterprise. The poorest of the poor are the ones who have to face the greatest intimidation and terror. You just have to listen to all the respectable community leaders and pastors from Diepsloot to understand that this problem is real and nothing has been done by our government to support and protect our own people.

For Saftu to target Health and Social Development MMC Ashley Sauls I in Johannesburg for his recent visit to the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital is nothing short of pure evil.

The Patriotic Alliance applauds its MMC for how responsive he was, and for placing activism above politics. He received the complaint after midnight and went to the hospital despite it not being part of his department. He was right to deplore the sight of pregnant women having to sleep on the floor in a hospital corridor. It wasn’t the MMC who claimed that 40% or more of the people who are overwhelming the bed space at the facility are foreigners.

He was told this by the doctors and nurses who work at the hospital. He was told that heavily pregnant foreign women are getting off the train at Park Station to come straight to Rahima Moosa, where they are promptly attended to, while South Africans are sent away because they don’t have the right clinic cards, or for some other excuse.

All the MMC’s attempts to engage with provincial government and the deceptive CEO of the hospital have come to naught.
Now Saftu wants to blame Treasury for what is a massive border control failure. They want to phrase the murder of Elvis Nyathi in confused Marxist terms that the working class should not be fighting against itself, but truly Saftu needs to get its head out of its ancient books and take a look at what the real world looks like now.

And in that real world, we are saying South Africans need to be put first. Statements like this one of Saftu’s make one wonder if there’s truth to the rumours that Vavi gets funded by businesses that want to employ only foreigners, or by the foreigners themselves.

The PA stands by its clarion call that illegal foreigners must go, and foreigners without special skills should not be allowed to compete for jobs with locals who are faced by this catastrophe of unemployment.

Unions in South Africa generally don’t have the interest of uts people at heart. They in bed with COSATU which protects this ANC Government. We need not look away from the fact that on of the reasons why service delivery is plunging at an alarming rate is because as worker’s we are not receiving payment increases not receiving performance bonuses us because monies ringfenced for this is being used for other issues. So South Africans are not just being affected by influx of foreigners taking jobs in communities they taking our hard earned sweat increments as a result of this influx affecting service delivery. We need the Patriotic Alliance to look into what’s happening with our increases what’s happening at Bargaining Council if they want services to be better we are disgruntled as South Africans and servants that must serve this country

I agree with PA all foreigners need to go and give work to the people of SA.
Here is no work for us. PA don’t turn out like ANC AND DA.
Corruption need to be attend if a minister having relationship with foreigners business etc then he must leave the house. SA have our own problems. Our own business employee foreigners but they can’t employed people of SA why not.
Government stop this please. Here I don’t have work don’t get house. It foreigners get work and house in less then a day.

What I know for sure is that the leaders of workers union are more inclined in politics than solving the problems of their workers. They used their unions as a ladder to climb to either provincial or national government post. If the rumours are true then that Vavi and Jim went to President Zuma to be recommended the second post in ANC as Deputy President then my argument is with substance.
What transpired now, is bitterness because of then rejection. Whatever the government is doing either local, provincial or national to Vavi is nothing because he is bitter like Carl Niehaus. I am not shocked when he prefer to support the foreigners above local. Even to choose to sensationalize a death of 1 person not considering the 7 who are allegedly killed by foreigners

Thanks DP Kenny Kunene all true. Here in Cape Town southern suburbs the foreigners gets spoonfed. They get the jobs the cars thd rented properties. The domestic workers gets psid R350 to R400 per day whereas or SA citizens gets minimum wage. Foreigner men gets drivers jobs even though their driving skills are road killers. They buy their driving licence bcoz they forever bribing everyone. Their domestic employers pays their children’s schools fees upfront and WCED loves it…hence no placements for SA kids in schools. You can only read FB pages to see. How can foreigners afford rental properties of R5k/month and more, creches for R2k when our people earn +-R5k. The affluent people in the southern suburbs feel so sorry for the foreigners and look down on us coloured pple pushing us out of the hospital system, the schools, jobs. How can any unskilled foreigner be in S.A. for so many years and still be legal. Their work permits has expired years ago. Yes they will show up with false docs that no-one verifies. It makes S.A. people sad, judgemental, and cheeseoff full of hateful feelings and revenge bcoz S.A. citizens are sitting on the sidelines of their own country looking in and sadly bitterness creeps in. THANK YOU Patriotic Alliance for making the necessary CHANGE. Thanks for shining the light where darkness prevails. 💚💚💚
