President of the Patriotic Alliance Gayton McKenzie on Monday welcomed yet another Cederberg councillor to the PA.
Earlier this year, Joseph Farmer walked over to the PA, resulting in a by-election.
The DA retained his ward, but only with the assistance of the Freedom Front Plus and Cederberg Eerste, who opted not to contest the ward and support the DA.
That decision, among others, did not sit favourably with Councillor Thomas Francois Waldeck who will now stand for the PA in the upcoming by-election.
The DA and Freedom Front Plus have been attempting, unsuccessfully, to gain control of the town council, despite the fact that there are disputes about whether a councillor from the Freedom Front can continue to qualify as a councillor after he allegedly failed to attend council meetings on five consecutive occasions.
The outcome of the by-election in Waldeck’s Ward 6 will once again play a defining role in who retains or gains control of the local council.
It is currently being governed in a coalition between the ANC and PA.
McKenzie said on Monday morning, welcoming Waldeck, that he also wished to thank the Western Cape chairperson for working hard to bring him on board with the “fastest growing political party in South Africa”.
He added: “The green train is unstoppable, the West Coast will be green. Watch this space for further announcements.”
