Nathaniel Julies’ mother, Bridget Harris, has opened up and made it clear that Patriotic Alliance (PA) president Gayton McKenzie did not take any money from her.
This comes after Harris had made allegations in February this year that McKenzie had lied and never gave them family money. At the time, Harris said the family had been used and dumped by Mckenzie.
She said ActionSA’s Wendell Bloem convinced her to work with the organisation and make accusations against McKenzie. She said Bloem convinced her to get Herman Mashaba and the party involved, and she obliged. However, On the one-year anniversary of Nathaniel’s death, Action SA showed no sense of care about his legacy but more political publicity.
She said the party did not do anything as promised. All they did was put up a tombstone where he was shot and not at the actual grave with a memorial plate that was not even donated by them but by Nathaniel Julies’ school.
They just left after speeches and media coverage, and Mashaba promised he would invite her for cake and cooldrink to catch up, something that never materialised.
She said she realised that the impression was that she had battered with her child’s legacy to the biggest bidder, and therefore she came out publicly to let the world know that whatever the price or loss she might incur for the truth, she is willing to accept it.
Bloem however, refuted claims that he used Harris’ pain for political gain. He said he has never played hide and seek with Harris, and she is the one who approached him.
“She was looking for me after the PA had left, and I missed that. I then got in touch with her, and she indicated she wanted legal help. I said I could introduce her to ActionSA, and that is what I did. I can not comment on what happened between Gayton and her,” Bloem said.
This is a wholly inaccurate report. False, misleading and very disappointing. Bridget said none of the things stated here about me. In the video you attach she clearly states what happened. Not once did I comment on her relationship with Gayton as I made it clear to her that I was not there when these things happened between them, nor do I have any interest in what happened between them. I offered to connect her with ActionSA as she didn’t have a political party to stand with her. She accepted the offer. Not once did I offer any opinion about Gayton or the PA. I will insist upon a proper right of reply in the presence of Bridget
