On Wednesday, one of the North West’s most iconic places, the Mmabatho Palms hotel, was gutted by a fire.
Guests were woken up by billowing smoke and massive flames. Provincial police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwebone confirmed the incident but said investigations were still underway to determine the cause.
“We can confirm that our members, together with firefighters, are at Mmabatho Palms Hotel that caught fire earlier this morning. At this stage, the cause of the fire and other details are still unknown,” he said.
Peermont Hotels Casinos and Resorts has also confirmed the fire at the hotel but indicated more information would be made available later in the day.
“The police and fire departments are on scene and are investigating the incident. A further statement will be issued when more information is available,” the company said.
