The daughter of civil rights activist Malcom X, Malikah Shabazz, has been found dead inside her home in New York City.
American media houses are reporting that her daughter found her in the house. According to the Washington Post, the daughter called emergency services, but officers who arrived at the Brooklyn home found her unresponsive.
The publication said the cause of death was not known, but the NYPD said her death did not appear suspicious.
Her death had numerous people on social media posting condolences to the family. Bernice King, the daughter of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., tweeted: “I’m deeply saddened by the death of Malikah Shabazz. My heart goes out to her family, the descendants of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X. Dr. Shabazz was pregnant with Malikah and her twin sister, Malaak when Brother Malcolm was assassinated. Be at peace, Malikah.”
Dr Omar Suleiman tweeted: “Malikah was in the womb of her mother Betty when Malcolm was gunned down in front of his family. She never got to hug him here. I pray he will be waiting to embrace her there. May Allah have mercy on them and make it easy for her remaining family on earth.”
