African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal Ethekwini Region has on Wednesday called for justice for the slain councilor.
The party’s spokesman in the region Mlondi Mkhize said while the organisation understands the universal rule of innocent until proven otherwise, the ANC is however on the side of the family of the slain councilor.

“While we understand and accept the principle of natural justice that a person is presumed innocent until proven otherwise, we however call for justice for our fallen comrades. We stand with the families of our fallen comrades and we want to see justice,” Mkhize said.
He further called on members of the community to unwaveringly work with the police and isolate criminals.
Mkhize also told Africa News Global that the ANC will be watching the case with keen interest up until its final stages.
Siyabonga Mkhize was a party councilor candidate for ward 101 when he was gunned down in Cato Crest, Durban last year.
Mkhize was gunned down a few days before last November’s municipal elections.
Meanwhile, the party’s spokesman said they can not ascertain for a fact the allegations levelled against the arrested councilor.
“We as the ANC in the region cannot be able to determine how true is the allegation. We believe that such questions will be responded to by our courts as they deal with the matter,” Mkhize added.
He, however, said the party will implement the step aside resolution in the matter.
“The ANC as an organisation has a policy that deals with members of the organisation who are charged. The same policy of step us will be applied to the member”.
